Pylon

William Faulkner

Harrison Smith and Robert Haas, 1935

First Edition. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. Bright blue cloth binding with black wraparound band and gilt lettering on front board and spine. Blue, white, and black pictorial dustjacket and black topstain. "First Printing 1935", stated. No other printings or edition mentioned. Some discoloration on the paste-down endpapers and milder discoloration on free endpapers. The interior of the book has smudging on a handful of pages, but otherwise it is quite crisp and clean. The spine has some significant fading: the blue color of the cloth has become a subdued gray and some of the gilt lettering has rubbed off, though it remains visible. The front and back covers still retain their bright blue color, but there is some minor discoloration from use. Some bumps on the edges of the boards; mild shelfwear. The paper dustjacket is housed in mylar, it is in decent shape, with creasing and wear all along the edges and has a long split where the spine meets the front cover.

One of Faulkner's lesser known novels, and one of the few set outside of the famous Yoknapatawpha County. Instead, Pylon takes place in a fictionalized version of New Orleans, a city he lived in for many years while writing many of his early novels.
