Halidon Hill: A Dramatic Sketch from Scottish History
Sir Walter Scott
Archibald Constable, 1822
Softcover First Edition. The first edition of this dramatic play by Sir Walter Scott, looking at the 1333 Battle of Halidon Hill. Title page is watermarked 1821. Rare in the original paper binding. Eight pages of publisher's advertisements at the front. Half-title is present. A poetical play by Sir Walter Scott, dramatising Scottish history in Scott's typical style. Scott penned this play over the course of two rainy mornings, originally for a volume of poetical miscellany which was being compiled by Joanna Baillie. However Scott wrote so fervently that the play outgrew the original volume and had to be published separately. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Wrappers are worn, lacking most of the backstrip. Wraps are discolored with some light marks. Internally, bright and firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with the occasional spot. Good.
