A Masque of Reason
Robert Frost
Henry Holt and Company 1945
First Edition. Hardcover. Book condition: Very Good +. Dustjacket condition: Very Good-. Brightly colored paper dustjacket with picture of Frost printed on the back. Navy blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Dustjacket has a small tear on the top edge of the front cover and some very minor shelfwear around its perimeter, otherwise it is quite intact and vibrant. Price is clipped. The book itself is quite neat. The cover has some mild scuffing near the spine on the outside of boards and very slight discoloration. There is some very light creasing on the pastedowns near the spine--other than this the interior is quite pristine.
A Masque of Reason is one of Robert Frost's few published plays. The drama is a satirical take on the Book of Job—regarding itself as the '43rd' chapter of the Book of Job—and largely focused on a frustrated exchange between Job and God. The events of the play unfold over a single brief act.
